A CALL has been made to broadcasting minister Janet Anderson to give all pensioners a concessionary £5 TV licence.
Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle tackled the Rossendale and Darwen MP in the Commons when she stressed the unfairness of the current scheme.
Pensioners in identical flats next door to each other found that one gets the cheap licence and one does not.
Mr Hoyle said that when the Government concluded a review of the scheme it must ensure that any rule changes to stop such anomalies did not land some pensioners with huge increases.
He said: "Will you consider ensuring that all pensioners benefit from a £5 licence?"
Mrs Anderson said she would wait for the review to be completed but added: "We must be aware that any substantial extension of the concessionary scheme could be very expensive but we recognise the unfairness of the present scheme which is imperfect and unsatisfactory."
