Where was A Kind of Loving filmed?
Film buff, Bolton. For the film A Kind of Loving (1962) starring June Ritchie, Alan Bates and Thora Hird, Bolton Town Hall was renamed Cressley Town Hall and a big works dance was held in the Albert Hall. Other location shots were filmed in Preston, Blackburn and St Annes.
Scenes were shot for the 1969 film Spring and Port Wines stars of which included James Mason, Diane Coupland and Susan George in April/May of that year. These included outside Bolton Wanderers ground, a canal towpath at Darcy Lever and in local streets. house scenes were shot at adjoining properties in Grisdale Road, with views overlooking the Middlebrook Valley and down Bankfield Street.
In between these two films, 'The Family Way' (1966) starring Hayley Mills, Hywell Bennett and John Mills, included scenes taken in Bolton. The main house location was in Wheatfield Street, where exterior shots were taken at the rear of the house.
Other locations included the Civic Centre, outside the Bolton gas works, terraced streets near the town centre and a Bolton bus. The Knowsley Street showroom of Bullough's appeared in the finished film as a record shop.
