FARNWORTH shoppers have been blasted for consistently dropping litter in and around the million pounds worth of improvements made to the town centre.
Mr Stan Haslam, of St James Street, Farnworth, claims local people are turning their own town into a "rubbish tip" - and has urged them to stop and instead take pride in the refurbished town.
And he has particularly pointed to the area around Brackley Street where side streets leading to the market and nearby car park have been used as a dumping ground.
Even newly installed flower beds have been clogged up by rubbish.
Mr Haslam said: "These spots around Brackley Street have always been treated like a rubbish tip and now even though a small garden area has been planted there people are still depositing litter.
"Even a carpet was dumped. "I can not understand why people do not want to keep the area they live in clean.
"People should surely take pride in the improvements that have been made."
But, Mr Haslam added, there were a shortage of litter bins. He said: "I feel there should be more litter bins around. They tend to get full too quickly.
"Surely more bins would encourage people not to drop litter on the floor."
A spokesman for the Council replied: "There are more litter bins provided as part of the redevelopment than there were before and there are still bins to be placed." Even though a small garden area has been planted people are still depositing litter
