LOCAL business people had a glimpse of a developing electronic future when they went along to Bolton Institute.
The Institute, which is keen to boost links with companies in the town, held a business communications session at the Eagle Campus which was attended by more than 70 people.
It featured sessions on video conferencing, trading electronically through e-commerce, Net North West High Speed Communications, the Bolton Information Network and new learning facilities available through the Internet.
Mr Wilf Gardner, Vice Principal of the Institute, told guests: "It is about helping the economy be better than it is."
Substantial
He said European Regional Development funding was allowing them to offer "very substantial" subsidies to businesses which wanted to use the Institute's equipment and technology.
"It is about exploiting this to your advantage," he added.
One of the stands featured the Bolton Information Network - a computer communications project currently under development.
The partners include Bolton Institute, Bolton Council, Wigan and Bolton Health Authority, Bolton Evening News, Greater Manchester Police, Bolton and Bury Chamber, Bolton Bury Technology Management Centre, the Citizens Advice Bureau and Bolton Employment Service.
