CHORLEY FC 3 SEAHAM RED STAR 0 CHORLEY face fellow Unibond League 1st Division outfit Radcliffe Borough in the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round after a convincing victory over Seaham Red Star.
Magpies boss Ken Wright must have one eye on the 1st round and a glamour tie against league opposition after his men saw off the mediocre north east side at Victory Park on Saturday.
Former Blackpool wideman Neil Mitchell started the rout. Mitchell must like the sixteenth minute. He scored Chorley's opener against Lincoln United at that time on Monday and opened his team's account against Seaham at the same juncture on Saturday.
Damian Corcoran scored the second. The powerful former Bamber Bridge man was too good for the Seaham midfielders and he headed home for a second Magpies goal before half-time.
Seaham, perhaps best known as the club were former Ipswich and Manchester City midfielder Nigel Gleghorn started his career, were inept and Chorley really should have buried them in the second half.
Paul Fleming scored a third from the penalty spot. The former Lancaster City defender was dragged down by the visiting keeper before hammering home the resulting penalty.
But, at the same time as England were failing to hammer home a 5-0 lead against Luxembourg 300 miles away, the Chorley forward line failed to put the game to bed.
Forwards Ian Barker and Keith Evans and man of the match Mitchell all tested the woodwork, but what should have been a cricket score petered out into an exhibition in the superiority of the Unibond League to its North Eastern feeders.
Chorley were due to take on Gretna on Tuesday night and play Mancunians Ashton United on Saturday.
