SUFFERERS of crime throughout the borough are set to benefit from a cash boost enabling Chorley's Victim Support Centre to extend its opening hours.
For the Lloyds TSB Foundation - one of the country's largest grant-making trusts - last week donated £5,200 towards the salary of clerical assistant Janet Stanley, allowing her hours to be increased from seven hours a week to more than 25.
Chorley Victim Support was established in April 1988 to provide a free, confidential support and information service to local victims of crime.
The centre has 15 fully trained volunteers who support a population of more than 97,000 people spread throughout urban and rural areas.
Since January of this year, the charity has helped 1,900 victims who have experienced a wide range of crimes, including rape, muggings and burglary.
Jill Hansen, scheme co-ordinator for Chorley's Victim Support, said: "Anyone who has been a victim of crime needs to know that there is someone to talk to, who will listen and provide practical support when they need it.
"We are absolutely delighted with the donation from the Lloyds TSB Foundation, who have enabled us to open the centre for longer, more regular hours."
David Pellymounter, branch manager for Lloyds TSB in Chorley, added: "The Victim Support Centre in Chorley provides an invaluable service, which helps many vulnerable people in the local community.
"I am pleased the Lloyds TSB Foundation has been able to make a donation."
