SECURITY video footage could hold vital clues to a teenager's tragic death, when she was crushed under a bus's wheels.

Emma Waters, 19, stumbled and fell under the rear wheels of a bus at Bury Bus Station on Wednesday night.

Now both police and bus company bosses at First Manchester have launched detailed investigations into her death.

Yesterday it was confirmed that CCTV coverage of the Interchange had been given to the police to help with inquiries.

First Manchester's operations director, Russell Gard, said: "We will collaborate fully with the official investigation into this tragic event.

"This will include whatever input is required from our staff. At this time one of our main concerns is the well being of the driver involved, who is deeply shocked by the incident.

"The company will do all it can to support him over the coming days. First Manchester has a safety record of which everyone associated with the company is proud.

"Consequently a tragic event such as this one affects everyone. Our thoughts go out to the relatives and all affected by this incident."

The accident came seconds after eyewitnesses saw the young woman running alongside the bus, banging on its side as if trying to get the vehicle to stop.

Yesterday the BEN told how shocked passengers tried to help the injured girl at the scene, at 8.50pm, before she was transferred to the Bury General Hospital where she later died.

Police are still appealing for witnesses of the accident close by the Interchange's Stand T to contact them on 0161 872 5050.
