A BOLTON man has won his fight to build 22 executive-type homes at Egerton. Mr William Watson, of Tonge Moor Road, has been granted permission by the Department of the Environment to build the homes between Cox Green Road and Blackburn Road. The old Turton Urban Council refused planning permission because it said it conflicted with the Town Map.

TYLDESLEY Food Committee last night confessed it was 'in the dark' about the number of imported rabbits coming into the town. Two months ago when rabbits were scarce, the Committee protested to the Ministry of Food that its decision to give an allocation of imported rabbits only to towns with a population of over 20,000 was unfair to places like Tyldesley, where the population is just below the qualifying figure. Mr S. Yates, butcher's representative on the Committee, contended it was unfair that two or three traders in the town could get supplies - through their own channels - and others could not. What they wanted was equitable distribution so that every trader could supply his customers.

WE learn with extreme regret that the efforts made to avert a Strike in the Bolton cotton industry have failed, and that in fact the strike has already begun. The Masters yesterday rejected both proposals submitted to them by the Operative; they will neither agree to the present rate of wages continuing for three years, nor refer the matter to arbitration. They abide by their decision to reduce wages five per cent. Subsequently the Operatives - both the Hand Mule Spinners and the Self Actor Minders - held meetings and determined to leave work. We have therefore before us the prospect of some 12,000 or 13,000 becoming idle in a few days, which means that the earnings will cease which usually go to support at least one fourth of the population of Bolton. The results upon the general trade of the town cannot be otherwise than most disastrous.
