I REFER to the letter from Mr Frank Rushton (BEN September 6) and the figures he gave regarding the comparison of refugee benefit with that of the state pensions.

May I suggest that the government are pressurised to pay the pensions at the refugee rate. That is £150 per week for single people and £250 for married couples while, at the same time, the benefits to the refugees are reduced to £66.75 per week. This would not only reduce calls on government cash as there will soon be more refugees than pensioners, but it may defer the economic refugees from coming to Great Britain - the soft touch of Europe.

A final rule that could be enforced would be that no person is granted benefit, medical, dental etc treatment until they have contributed to the funds for two years and can produce a national insurance number which can be checked with the national computer.
