THE Ministry of Defence has announced that the Pegasus badge, proud emblem of our airborne forces since 1942, is to be done away with.
It has been confirmed that the Pegasus is to be replaced by an eagle. This would be more acceptable to foreign commanders when our armed forces are
handed over to the proposed European defence force.
The Parachute Regiment is perceived as the spearhead of the British defence force. Its elimination would help undermine national self-confidence, all
in the interest of creating a country called Europe.
It is significant that Lieutenant General Sir Mike Jackson, never a member of the Parachute Regiment, has been appointed Colonel Commandant of the
Regiment, as presumably he will have fewer qualms about disbanding the Regiment.
The Pegasus Association has been formed to represent British and Commonwealth airborne soldiers in their indignation over the proposal, and to make the public aware of the situation.
The Association will be marching in protest on Sunday, September 1999, (starting at noon) from the London Embankment along Whitehall to a rally in Trafalgar Square.
September 26 is the anniversary of the last day of the Battle of Arnhem, which ended with 7,600 allied casualties.
