limit! THE SCHOOL year began today at Scot Lane End Primary School. In spite of the adverse publicity caused by proposals for the school's closure, the number of new starters in the Reception Class is 20pc above the admission limit which is supposed to be the maximum number allowed.
We are, however, told by the Director of Education that the Council has decided in principle that Scot Lane should close. This places them in the ludicrous position of trying to solve the problem of falling rolls by closing the school with the most rapidly rising roll! Presumably this is on the fine old Labour principle that the best way to promote equality is to penalise success.
Since the Labour Party seems unable to see the absurdity of their position, perhaps a footballing analogy will be more to their taste:
Given that Scot Lane is currently top of the educational league table for Blackrod, the proposal is akin to closing Old Trafford and amalgamating Manchester United with Bolton Wanderers in order to ensure that the Reebok Stadium is full. Even the most avid Wanderers supporter would concede that this is unreasonable and yet, on present evidence, our Labour Councillors would vote for it!
Did we really elect these people?
