BURY'S high profile Community Safety Wardens, the town's "friendly faces" on the streets, are looking for new recruits.
It is hoped the scheme, one of the first of its type to be established in Britain, will attract new faces to take up the town centre duties.
The project has been developed through a partnership involving the Council, Home Office, police and private sector, with funding through the Single Regeneration Budget and European Social Fund.
The main aim of the wardens is to help reduce crime and improve overall community safety, act as the "eyes and ears" of the Council and other agencies and also serve as Bury's own ambassadors on the town centre streets.
Mr Tom Mann, centre co-ordinator for the training organisation Q-mat Ltd, said: "We are looking for new recruits for induction training beginning on Monday, September 27.
"That will be a five-week training programme and basically individuals need to be over 20 years of age.
"They can contact us on 01204-363080.
"Alternatively they can contact any local Job Centre or call at the Project Office."
