TALENTED trio Y2K topped the musical bill at Castlefield Carnival over the weekend.
And their tribute to US rocker Alanis Morrisette saw them run off with first prize in the under-15s section of the Young Performer of the Year contest.
They were presented with their award by Sue Devaney, former star of Casualty and Victoria Wood's Dinnerladies. She also played Kevin Webster's sister in Coronation Street.
The fledgling band was set up eighteen months ago by singer Vicky Jones, aged 15, from Thornleigh College, Bolton, her guitarist brother Danny, 13, also from Thornleigh, and 13-year-old keyboard player Chris Howard, from Bolton School.
But already the group, who write their own material, has been inundated with awards including one on Challenge TV's Showstoppers.
Alan Jones, father of two of the band's members, said: "It's been brilliant. I thought they had a good chance but the competition was great and it must have been a tough decision for the judges. We're on a high at the moment."
The band are looking for a manager to take them into the next millennium. They have already been speaking to some people in the industry and they are about to cut their first CD.
Y2K will be playing a gig with ten other bands at Breightmet Labour Club on September 17 in aid of the Meningitis Trust.
Tickets are available on Bolton 593462 or 493086 and will cost £3 for adults and £1.50 for children and OAPs.
