BATTLING Monica Reddyhough is determined to give something back to the cancer care unit which cured her rare skin disease.sd

So the stalwart charity fundraiser, who recently was diagnosed with cancer, donned horse riding garb for high jinks in Market Street, Adlington.

Monica joined a posse of loyal friends in a charity pub crawl ... on horse back!

The fancy dress riders rode down the street asking people to stand and deliver their cash.

Even the horses were clad in colourful garb as they trotted to 12 pubs in the Adlington area.

Monica, 50, of Walton Street, Adlington, inspired the charity collection to boost the coffers at Preston's Cancer Care Unit.

Monica, who set up the Adlington Youth Club and helps organise Adlington Carnival, said: "I was diagnosed with cancer in May.

"I spotted a lump and had it removed and then they discovered I had cancer.

"I was just hours away from having an operation when they called it off because they realised that it was a rare skin cancer."

Monica underwent a month of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

"I was first told that I couldn't have treatment because there was not enough resources," she explained. "There were not enough Linac Accelerators which are used for the radiotherapy.

"But I am a very resourceful person and I managed to get treatment without too much of a delay.

"I would hate to think of those people who are shy or are unable to push themselves forward."

Cash raised from the stunt, organised by Monica's friend Suzanne Ashcroft, will go towards the Lancashire and Lakeland Cancer Foundation Cancer Care Unit at Preston to buy vital equipment.

Monica added: "I'm a very positive person and as far as I'm concerned I'm cured of cancer now. I just want to help others."
