THE funeral of a young woman who died under the wheels of a bus in Bury was taking place today.
Relatives and friends of Emma Waters gathered at the Bury Cemetery chapel to bid their final farewells to the popular student.
Emma, aged 19, of Longridge Drive, Heywood, was crushed under the wheels of a single decker First Manchester bus at Bury's town centre Interchange last Wednesday night.
An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the tragic incident and Emma's family are considering possible legal action over her death.
Emma died after taking her brother and nine-year-old niece to a funfair at Pilsworth.
The teenager, who worked part-time at BB's Cafe in Bury town centre, was due to start studying for English and Media Studies A-levels at Bury College. She had eventually planned to study at university.
Her family, including relatives from the Little Lever area, arranged for lively hymns to be sung at the funeral ceremony "to reflect Emma's bubbly personality".
An internal investigation into the incident is being conducted by First Manchester officials.
