PHOTOGRAPHS in colour or even black and white
You hold the camera steady and hope they turn out right,
There're wedding snaps and christenings and holidays by the sea,
There're happy ones and sad ones and even some of me.
The best ones are the old ones faded and bent and thin
Strange dress and styles amaze you.
(Oh! there's one of a Wanderers win!)
Stacks of family memories - there're some of the early wars,
Christmas time as children playing with our toys.
There's one of dad in his uniform and one of grandad too,
There's grandma in her Sunday best
When clothes were all too few.
The recent ones are clear and sharp with colours very true,
Holidays at exotic isles with the ocean warm and blue,
Much different from the Blackpool days - "walkie" snaps on the pier.
It's sipping wine and cocktails now and flying without fear.
What would we do without photographs - our memories would fade and die?
Thank goodness for the camera
The wonderful private eye.
