TRAGIC 19-year-old Emma Waters, who died under the wheels of a bus, was buried yesterday to the sound of some of her favourite pop records.
The family chose the music to reflect Emma's up-beat life, as well as the deep sadness her loved-ones were suffering.
The grief felt by her many friends and her loving family turned to tears as the sound of records by Geri Halliwell, U2 and REM filled the small chapel at Bury Cemetery.
Around 50 mourners were present at the touching service following Emma's death on Wednesday.
Student Emma, who had a job in Bury Precinct, was crushed after falling under the rear wheels of a bus at Bury's town centre bus station.
Emma, who worked at BB's coffee and muffins cafe near the Marks and Spencer store, suffered internal injuries in the accident.
Emma, of Longridge Drive, on the Bury-Heywood boundary, died in hospital three hours later as surgeons fought to save her.
In glorious autumnal sunshine yesterday, the sombre funeral procession filed into the chapel following Emma's coffin, adorned by a floral tribute spelling out her name.
Geri Halliwell's cheerful salsa record Mi Chico Latino played.
Mourners were united in grief as REM's Everybody Hurts and U2's With Or Without You were played. Tributes were paid by close members of her family, some of whom hail from Little Lever.
They spoke of Emma's generosity and loving nature.
Grief-stricken sister Vannessa told mourners: "My little sister has gone away.
"I wake up every morning and I wonder how I will I get through this day.
"And then I remember the person Emma was: beautiful, caring and kind."
Elder brother Clint, who had studied Media Studies as Emma had hoped to do, added his feelings.
"Emma hadn't begun to live her life," he said.
"I feel like something of me has been removed.
"She wore her heart on her sleeve and was willing to accept the consequences.
"My sister was the most amazing person I know."
Her mum Maureen struggled with her grief as she said that her daughter would have made a wonderful mother.
Among the floral tributes from friends and family, was one from the cafe where she was working part-time.
She was due to start studying for English and Media Studies A-levels at Bury College. She had eventually planned to study at university.
