COLLEAGUES of a supermarket catering manager who collapsed and died at work rallied round to resurrect a contest in her memory.
Workmates decided that a drawing competition overseen by Kath Brooks, a 50-year-old catering manager at the Asda store on Moss Bank Way, Astley Bridge, should be continued to ensure her hard work would be appreciated.
And they were so pleased with the high standard of entries that they handed out runners-up prizes - a move which was not planned when the competition was set up.
Entrants had to design a children's meal bag and the competition was split into three age groups.
Catrina Agrafiotis, aged 11, from Bromley Cross, won the 9-11 age category with Scott Smith, 11, from Astley Bridge coming second.
Samantha Waldron, eight, from Astley Bridge came top of the 5-8 age group with Alex Waldron, 6, from Edgworth in second place.
And in the under-four category, Alicia Camilla-Albinson walked off with the number one slot. Laura Mundy, 4, from Smithills came second.
Andy Ginty, a spokesman for the store, said: "We had a very high standard of entry and we felt the competition had to go on."
The three winners will be entered into a regional final.
