SOCIAL clubs are joining many pubs by giving a big thumbs down to staying open for a marathon stint during the millennium celebrations. A survey by the Club and Institute Union (CIU) has revealed that NO venues have decided to take up the government's offer of staying open for 36 hours from 11am on December 31 until 11pm on January 1.
However, clubs are still getting into the party spirit and fears that a large number of clubs would give the whole millennium experience a miss or charge extra for drinks have proved unfounded.
Only 15 per cent of clubs surveyed have decided to close down and none is charging extra for drinks.
The vast majority are charging the same price and seven per cent are even offering cheaper drinks.
