Bolton Council will be asked tomorrow to campaign for more cash to fund the town's emergency services. Liberal Democrat councillors want a letter sending to the three Bolton MPs urging them to lobby the Government. They will be arguing that the police, fire and ambulance service in Bolton are currently stretched to the limit. Cllr Mrs Barbara Ronson, leader of the Liberal Democrats on Bolton Council, said: "People are always complaining to me that there are not as many bobbies on the beat as there used to be.

Complaints

"We have our problems at Horwich fire station at the moment and there have been complaints about the time taken for ambulances to arrive."

The BEN reported yesterday that firefighters and councillors had joined forces at the weekend to launch a campaign for Horwich fire station to be upgraded to a full-time service.

Cllr Mrs Ronson added: "We have a great deal of sympathy with the police. They do seem to be very short of staff.

"As a councillor, I frequently have complaints that people have asked for help for such things as problems with juveniles and they have been told there is no one available.

"We will be hoping that the MPs will take up the case and persuade the Government to break the spending limits and find more money for the emergency services."
