WHILE some Wanderers' fans will be saying "good riddance" now that Colin Todd has quit the club, we are not among them.

In his seven-year stint with Wanderers - three years as coach and four as manager - Todd has given the club one of its most exciting periods in its recent history.

He managed them into the Premiership twice and the 1997 Division One Championship success was by a massive 18-point margin.

We respect him for those achievements and for the way his teams have played the game.

Last season's disappointments and the indifferent start to this season should not be allowed to detract from his successes.

He has been his own man during his tenure and has not been prepared to compromise about his own high standards.

It seems clear he feels that his position had become untenable, partly because of cash restraints.

And his recommendation that Per Frandsen should not be sold was disregarded.

It is not surprising that that was the final straw.

We hope that when a new manager is appointed he will be given the backing and the financial resources to do the job.

We wish Todd well and thank him for all he has done for Wanderers.
