PHIL Brown is hoping to secure the Wanderers manager's job in the next three games.
The man who worked for three years as Colin Todd's first team coach says his performance as caretaker boss could decide his fate.
As he prepared for Saturday's home game against Nottingham Forest, the former Wanderers captain threw his hat in the ring with an unequivocal: "I want the job, asbolutely 100 per cent."
"This is the biggest opportunity of my life and I am determined to make the most of it," he added.
"After Saturday there are two away games (at Wolves and Swindon) and it's possible that I could still be here for them while the board decides. Hopefully that will give me the time to put so much pressure on the chairman and board of directors and show them that I can do the job."
Wanderers' chairman, Gordon Hargreaves, says Todd will be a hard act to follow.
"Colin did a super job here," Mr Hargreaves said. "When he took over in his own right in the 95-96 season, he turned results around. He couldn't prevent us being relegated but we bounced back the following year and only dropped out of the Premiership on goal difference on the last day of the season. Last year we reached the play-offs and would be in the Premier League if things had gone our way that day.
"We owe Colin a big thank you."
