SHOPPERS desperate to spend a penny in Bolton have been told there are plenty of toilets available.
Cllr Jack Foster, head of planning and environment, said there were more loos available than people thought.
He told them to use publicly available toilets in pubs, hotels and restaurants as well as council-owned ones.
But he added that the council were looking at ways to come up with funds to provide extra facilities in the town centre.
And Cllr Foster hoped advertising on the side of "superloos" could help bring in extra money.
He said: "We are trying to find a scheme that will result in income to be spent on extra toilets and to see if we can get income by advertising.
"I don't know how anybody gets in trouble in Victoria Square, people can use our facilities in the town hall - after all they are everybody's toilets.
"I don't think we're as short of toilets as it appears."
Cllr Norman Critchley highlighted a report which blamed poor toilets for putting off visitors to the town.
