PARENTS at a Bolton primary school are being urged to bombard Labour councillors with letters.

They are angry about plans to merge High Lawn School, Sharples, with closure-threatened Oldhams.

And in the latest edition of High Lawn School's newsletter, the names, address and phone numbers of all the Labour members of the council are listed.

Bolton Council is set to make a decision on controversial primary school closures at a special meeting on October 19.

Parents at all the schools under threat are set to lobby councillors before the meeting.

And parents at High Lawn fear that the proposals will change the nature of their school.

The school will have a year intake of 40 pupils.

And an article in the school's newsletter says: "There is a significant difference in the standards of attainment between the two schools, the merger of the pupil population will lower High Lawn's standards."

The article by parent Julian Page added: "The building work will cause significant disruption and the teaching staff will need to spend considerable time away from teaching to liaise with Oldhams CP Schools

"The two schools serve two distinct communities separated by 0.7 miles."

He adds that Labour councillors are likely to support the proposals and that they should write as many letters as they can.

"Get those word processors up and running!" he adds.
