OLD BOLTONIANS from across the globe will rub shoulders with former school pals - some who are now famous faces - in a centenary reunion this weekend.
Bolton School will throw open its doors from tonight as thousands once again tread the familiar boards of the Chorley New Road premises.
Oscar nominated actor Sir Ian McKellen, Nobel prize winner Sir Harry Kroto, Labour Chief Whip Ann Taylor, DJ Mark Ratcliffe and chess grandmaster Nigel Short have all been invited to the party amongst many academic high-flyers.
But reunion organiser Stefan Horsman has admitted that, although they have not had any replies from the celebrities, it is possible that the stars will still show.
Publicity
"I imagine they have not replied because if they do turn up, they won't want all the publicity and fuss, " Stefan told the BEN: "They'll want it to be something very personal and low-key."
The event is being staged to mark the moving of the school from its site next to the Parish Church to Chorley New Road in 1899.
But Bolton School has its roots as far back as 1516 when it was formed as Bolton Grammar School.
A hectic schedule of events will mark the 100th anniversary of the move starting tonight with a reception for 350 in the school's arts centre.
Reunions for people who left as long as 50-years-ago will be staged on Saturday finishing the day's celebration with a dinner dance at the Reebok Stadium.
A service will be held at the school on the Sunday bringing a close to the weekend's fun.
Old boys and girls, former staff and their partners have been invited to the bash with more than 2,000 expected to re-live their school time memories.
