POLICE chiefs have issued a warning to Chorley homeowners following a spate of corrupt burglar alarm salespeople operating in the borough.
Their hard sell tactics are to prey on residents' fears of being burgled - convincing them they are more likely to be attacked in their homes than ever before.
And reports of the unscrupulous companies working in Chorley has prompted a severe warning to anyone who is approached by door-to-door salespeople.
Jill Shacklady, Lancashire Police's alarm administrator, expressed her concerns about the bogus companies.
She said: "For people who wish to purchase intruder alarms it is a very good idea to take a few precautions.
"My advice is not to let any door-to-door salespeople into your home without checking their credentials. Be very cautious of those who tell alarming tales of crime.
"It is advisable to obtain at least two estimates from reputable alarm companies to compare the prices. An approved company will stick to strict guidelines laid out by the National Association of Police Officers' Intruder Alarm Policy and be recognised by the following bodies - NACROSS, AISC, SSAIB and INTEGRITY."
Information packs are available from Chorley Police Station or direct from the alarm administration team on 01772 618125.
