CHORLEY Civic Society has given a commendation to Lancashire County Council for its role in promoting the National Heritage Open Days campaign.
Heritage Open Days is a special weekend when owners of historic properties open their doors for events such as guided walks and talks.
Over the years, the county council has co-ordinated events within the county and produced a leaflet detailing more than 60 venues involved in the open days.
Last year, these included sites ranging from Astley Hall and the Frances Darlington Almhouses in Chorley to Marsh Mill, near Fleetwood, and Martholme Gatehouse, near Blackburn.
The Chorley Civic Society Awards, held last week, are in recognition of initiatives and activities which are sensitive to and in sympathy with the environment in Chorley.
Heritage Open Days this year will take place on September 16 and 17. For further details, contact the Lancashire Archaeological Service.
