PEOPLE living in Chorley's Crime hotspots will get new self-help from local police.

The crime prevention packs, which contain dozens of advice leaflets on how to protect yourself, your home and your possessions, will be distributed by Southern division.

The packs, paid for by ADT Fire and Security and backed by Neighbourhood Watch and Victim Support schemes, will be delivered to people living in 'hotspots' and to victims of crime.

Crime prevention officer PC Lesley Brown said: "We are taking the view that forewarned is forearmed. Many victims of crime realise afterwards that if they'd have taken a few simple steps to secure their home or vehicle the crime might have been prevented.

"Many crimes are committed by opportunist thieves looking for a weakness to exploit, be it an unlocked door, property left in open view in a car or a bike left unsecured when someone has gone shopping."

PC Brown added: "The leaflets give advice in a practical and non-judgemental way and will go a good way to making people safer and reassured."
