work on Adlington's new development area has begun.
The Adlington South Employment Area is part of an on-going development of small industrial units intended to bring new jobs to the town.
And, according to developers, the first businesses could be moving in as early as this summer.
The frame of the first building is already in place.
The development, which will eventually house up to 15 companies, is being built by local firm Fairport Developments Ltd.
Managing director Andrew Porter said: "The first building, capable of housing five units, will be available in June.
"The other building will be completed in stages during the remainder of 2000 to finish in early 2001.
"There will also be approximately 12,000 square feet of offices, on two floors, to be rented out to small and medium-sized businesses as managed workspace.
"This means that small and medium-sized companies will have access to centralised services, such as a reception and fax machine. We expect to have them finished in early 2001.
"There has been a lot of interest from potential clients, especially since they have seen building work commence."
Units in the new development area will range from 1,000 sq feet to 12,000 sq feet. Interested companies can contact Fairport's group properties manager, Howard Ellis, on Chorley 484001.
