TYLDESLEY allotment holders are appealing for new green-fingered members to help save their site.
The Astley Allotments' Association has 20 vacant plots at its base on the common behind Tyldesley Police Station. And members want them filled before they fall to the threat of new homes.
Wilf Duddle, a member for five years, said: "The 120 plots are big and provide an ideal pastime for younger people who are out of work, and they can grow their own food. We have some very good women gardeners too."
The plots cost £22.50 a year for membership and water.
Members are also appealing for any old flags or fencing.
Anyone interested in joining the group or who can answer the flag appeal can contact Ian Whyte on 877324.
