FOR the past few weeks, the press has been reporting about the many refugees begging in major cities, some with very young children. Therefore I was very surprised to find out that Bolton has the very same problem.
Today, March 25, I myself was approached by a foreign lady with a card, saying that she was a refugee with two young children, and had no money. Although she could not speak a word of English, the small card was in perfect English.
She certainly didn't understand the word 'no', as she showed the card to an elderly relative that I and my two children were talking to at the time.
Bolton Market is, as you know, a very busy place on a Saturday, and the lady in question probably made a pretty penny. But then again, many young people in this town have young children and have to live on what they earn, and they don't go begging in the streets.
I do hope that Bolton is not going to become like London and other cities, where on every corner there are refugees begging with children their side.
I would like to know how many other people this young lady approached on that Saturday.
