BOLTON Mets produced their best performance of the season to beat Warrington side Latchford Albion 24-10.

Bolton opened up the scoring with a penalty from full back Mark Dorning.

The Mets pack, lead by props Colin Crompton and Steven Dorning, were at their best. Drive after drive eventually broke down Latchford's resistance for loose forward Leach to score Bolton's first try after some brilliant team work.

Constant pressure from Bolton saw second rower Ralph Sherrington dive through a packed defence to give them their second. Another penalty from Dorning put the Mets further in front.

With a 14-0 lead Bolton still had to defend. Scrum half Robert Bailey, centre Neil Walsh and forward Mick Booth were all high in the tackle count.

Then, just before the break a well timed pass from stand-off Andrew Charky helped centre Gaz Cartwright to race through giving Mets a 20-0 lead.

The second half started with Bolton in control. Leach and full back Dorning both went close, being stopped just inches from the line. New signing Dave Hartford came on to strengthen the pack with Owen Griffith , who put on his best performance to date. Another try from Leach breaking from the half way line after a pass from Dave Emondson, made it 24-0.

With the game in the bag some indiscipline crept into Bolton's game allowing Latchford to come back with two quick tries. However solid defending from hooker Alex Thomas and centre Mark Walker stopped any further damage.

In the final ten minutes the Mets blooded another new signing Stuart Cocker.

Saturday is Bolton's derby game away against local side Adlington Rangers. Meet at the Feathers at 12.30pm.
