MAY I reply to the letter from Joseph Williams on March 16 regarding the 'cost friendliness' of Chorley Market as regards to the national supermarket chains based locally.
Many thanks from the traders of the market.
The idea of a market is simple, the success of the traders simply relies on the price of the product.
With so many independent traders in a small council-owned base, it will always guarantee competitive prices on any product of the day. It must be like this or the stall holders would not continue in business, and the market has existed for more than 500 years.
Most food products sold on the market come direct from the grower, farmer, dairy or baker, absolutely fresh each day with a minimum of handling and MILEAGE. This takes a lot of beating, as the people of Chorley are realising. Many Thanks.
Lawrence Carter,
Chorley Market.
