YOUNG trombone player Andrea Davenport was blown away after she scaled the dizzy heights of a 170ft crane before bungee jumping into a pub car park.

The Smithills School Band member is hoping to bring in the pounds for her band, who are faced with the prospect of falling £20,000 in the red for a tour of America - unless they can raise the cash beforehand.

Speaking moments after her daredevil plunge she said: "It is unbelievable. It is such a rush. I was pretty scared at the top, my knees were shaking, but I was determined I wouldn't bottle out. I'm on a real high at the moment."

Andrea, aged 18, was watched by school pals and nervous members of her family including her mum and dad.

Her leap yesterday afternoon at the Jolly Carters Pub, Bury, should raise at least £200.

The band, which toured Japan last year, will use the cash to pay for its trip to Atlanta and West Virginia, America, in July.

They are meeting the governor of West Virginia and will also have a tour of the area during their nine day trip.

Band spokesman Chris Wormald, said: "The band's faces have appeared on Greyhound buses. It's had a fantastic response. Out of the 10 concerts, nine are already booked out."

The band is hoping to raise £33,000 for the trip.

With £13,000 already in the bank, band members and school governors are throwing themselves into fund-raising.

But the band will fall into debt if they cannot raise the cash within the next eight weeks.
