Horwich Market is going Queen Mum crazy to celebrate her 100th birthday.

A stall is being decked out in red, white and blue and members of the public are invited to sign two giant birthday cards.

Traders will then take the completed cards to Clarence House on 31 July -- just in time for the Queen Mum's birthday four days later.

Already customers have been queuing to sign the unique card and add their own special message.

Gee Foster, market officer in Horwich, said the market wanted to honour the Queen Mum and bring people back to the market.

She said: "We wanted to do something special to mark her 100th birthday and we've got lots of Union flags around. It is proving very popular.

"Hopefully it will remind people in Horwich and the rest of Bolton that we are still here and that the market is great place to shop.

"It also shows that the traders are prepared to put the effort in and come up with ideas like this, but they really need people to return the favour and start shopping there again."

There are two giant cards -- one for senior citizens and the other for everyone else.

People who sign even get a free slice of fruit cake. Almost 127 sheets of congratulations are already filled with many more to follow.

The cards will be presented to the Queen Mum at Clarence House by Gee and market traders Graham Bates, John Walton and John Crompton.

Anyone who wants to sign just has to visit Horwich market, which is based just off Chorley New Road.
