AN angry three-foot long American bull snake which was found hissing at cats in Breightmet a month ago has still not been claimed.

And Bolton police wildlife officer Sgt Jim Nisbet has renewed his appeal for the owner to come forward.

The bull snake is currently being looked after by experts at Bolton Museum and Aquarium.

And it could become a permanent resident there if the owner does not claim it.

As reported in the BEN, the snake was found near Long Lane hissing at two frightened cats.

Sgt Nisbet has never recovered a bull snake in Bolton before and museum snake expert Tim Henshaw has only seen them brought in a handful of times.

Bull snakes sell for between £70-90 in pet stores and are not venomous but can break the skin with a small bite.

Sgt Nisbet said: "We still believe this snake is somebody's pet and we are sure someone must know where it has come from."

But so far there have been no calls to Sgt Nisbet with information. He can be contacted on 0161 856 5738.
