A BOLTON fire brigade boss accused of bullying a workmate has been cleared following a union investigation.
Station officer Peter Brandon, based at Bolton Central station, faced being thrown out of the union.
But yesterday, he learned the case against him had been dismissed, following an FBU probe.
The hearing followed accusations -- upheld by Greater Manchester Fire Service -- made against SO Brandon by award-winning firefighter Graham Smith.
Mr Smith, awarded an MBE for humanitarian work helping Romanian orphans, had been reprimanded by Mr Brandon for removing his helmet as a mark of respect during an emergency call-out to Bolton Parish Church on Christmas Eve. Today, Mr Brandon told of his relief that the case against him had been dismissed and that he was to remain a union member.
He added: "I'm delighted. It's taken a long time to clear my name but it's come to an end.
" Both me and my family have been through a lot but now we can get on with our lives."
The decision of the FBU's regional committee came after both men and a number of witnesses were called to give evidence.
Proceedings began last Tuesday, with a 12 hour session having to be adjourned to yesterday's three hour hearing.
