CHORLEY Athletic Club has won promotion for the second year running by winning Division 3NW of the Northern Mens Track and Field League.
Team manager, Pat Keene, said that moving up to Division Two is due to the commitment of all the squad, club officials and coaches throughout the season and to an influx of new members.
Taking the club into new territory is going to be quite a challenge but one which, if the team stays and pulls together will prove successful. Personal bests tumbled and seasons best recorded as athletes threw, jumped and ran to gain those extra points in the last meet of the season at Bradford.
With two athletes injured, two just coming back from injury and the Steeplechase cancelled, the team had to be amended through the course of the afternoon with the relay squads only being declared an hour before taking place.
The result of the meeting hung in the balance as those vital points were added up after the last event but the anxious wait turned to cheers as the club learned that they had not only won the meeting but were 3NW champions and their lap of honour began.
