Talking Rugby with Frank Endacott Spoilt for choice CAN I start the column this week, by expressing my delight at being asked to do a regular piece for the Bolton Evening News.
I am very keen to interact with fans and I am well aware that Wigan fans and rugby fans in general come from far and wide, so I hope that rugby fans new and old enjoy this regular feature.
On a personal note, the last month or so has been very fulfilling.
We have won all our matches besides the Saints game at home.
I received a two-year extension to my contract at Wigan and also received the Tetley's Bitter Super League Coach of the Month award for July.
However, I am a team man and my main focus now is preparing for the business end of the season.
We feel that we have been quiet achievers this term and we are in a nice position on the league ladder, ready to peak at just the right time.
I now have a selection dilemma at hooker. We have in our ranks a man who will probably be England's first choice hooker this season, Terry Newton and also one of the best young hookers in the game in Mark Smith.
Mark has been the first choice hooker over the last three weeks, after Terry got injured against Warrington.
Mark has been in scintillating form, which was rewarded last week with a place in the starting line-up against Wakefield, despite the fact that Terry had returned to fitness.
It is a good dilemma to be in ahead of our game against Halifax at the JJB Stadium this Sunday (kick off 6.35pm).
Earlier this week, I met some of the 'Legends' who are going to feature in a curtain-raiser before this weekend's game.
It is good to see ex-players who have probably not seen each other for several years, meet up again as if they have never been apart.
Hopefully, some BEN readers will be able to get down to the JJB Stadium this weekend. It is a big game for us, like all games in Super League and your help and support will be greatly appreciated.
Keep Smiling
