WITH reference to a recent letter in the BEN headlined'What a waste of police resources'.
I am a retired policeman who lives in Harwood. I sympathise with the owner of the car who had it pushed on to the road by youths at night, on July 2, but completely disagree with other comments they have made.
At present there are too many people breaking the law, driving around the country in vehicles which are either not fit to be on the road from various offences, such as no brakes or no excise (tax), which is costing the Government millions in lost revenue each year.
I pay mine, and 90pc of vehicle owners pay theirs. It carries a maximum fine of £2,000. I don't call that trivial but a part-time car dealer who drops off vehicles at various places in Harwood and Bradshaw to sell probably thinks £2,000 is not a big fine.
This is a police matter and they should report drivers for using or keeping a vehicle on a public road without tax, just like the Council should sort out cars being dropped off for sale. Harwood looks like a car salesroom. Everywhere you go, there is an old car with a price in the window.
