ALLEN Vix rolled back the years when he watched his beloved Wanderers in action during their pre-season trip to the United States - an experience that prompted the ex-pat to fly over from his home in Cincinnati with his wife, Barb, and daughter Nathalie to pay his first visit to the Reebok. Here is his view of Saturday's game.
THE guy we met in the pub on Saturday evening reckoned it was a long way to come to see a bad game.
Maybe I've been starved of football for too long but I didn't think it was at all bad. In fact I though it was a decent match and I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to the beautiful Reebok Stadium.
I'd hoped for a win but you can't always get that. There were two treams out there trying to win a derby match and, in the end, I'd say a tie was a fair result.
We started off a little slow but I figured that it would take time with new players coming in. They settled pretty quickly though and I thought we really controlled the game. The midfield did well. I've only seen Frandsen on telly before but he's definitely a good player; Passi too - he worked very hard.
We seemed a little shaky at the back at times with those crosses going in but Burnley were hardly in the game in the first half.
We let Burnley into it in the second half - I don't realy know why but their substitute, Little, made a bit of a difference. I don't know who was supposed to be marking him but he caused us a lot of trouble.
We had a couple of chances to win it near the end but we can't complain about the result.
I'm looking for Wanderers to have a good season once they've settled down and had a chance to play together.
I was really impressed with Rankin. He looked good, held the ball up well and worked hard and unselfishly, although he didn't get the service he needed in the second half. Unfortunately I won't get to see any more games while I'm over so I won't see him and either Holdsworth or Ricketts in action together, which is a pity.
I must say there were some strange decisions by the referee and I couldn't see why Frandsen was carded, when I thought he'd been fouled but I'm not making excuses and I'm sure Sam isn't.
The Reebok's a beautiful stadium and the noise and the build-up sent chills down my spine.
It's hard to imagine a better experience and a more treasured memory to take back to the States.
