CHARNOCK Richard became the first side in the Goldline Trophy in association with the Bolton Evening News to book their place in the semi-final of the competition after a 0-0 draw against Atherton Collieries.
Tempest United meanwhile did their chances of qualifying from Group Three no harm at all with a 4-0 win over Radcliffe Amateurs. A double strike from Ian Horrocks and one apiece from Shaun Wharlow and Steve Settle did the damage. In the same Group Daisy Hill's chances of qualifying were however dealt a severe blow going down 6-2 at home to Bolton County. Chris Smythe knocked in his hat-trick for the visitors being joined on the score sheet by Simon Entwistle, Michael Craig and Trevor Howarth. Mike Bennet and Dave Whitter got the consolations for Daisy.
Atherton LR added to their points total in Group 2 beating Rivington 2-1 in a closely fought game. Damien Stewart and Aaron Armstrong were on target for LR, Danny Kirkman for the visitors.
