I WAS shocked to learn that the Government plans to abolish Community Health Councils.
I'm sure that not many people know just how much the CHC do for the benefit of the local population.
Their work is not as well advertised as it should be.
It worries me that if there is no CHC, where do I turn for help if I am unhappy about treatment or advice I may have received from my GP or the hospital.
What if someone is finding it difficult to get a wheelchair? What if someone on their own needs help, perhaps special nursing care, or even just advice about a health matter, all in confidence of course, who will they turn to?
There is talk about having something at the hospital, but I can't see how that can be as private or as helpful.
It certainly won't be as convenient as it is now, since the CHC is located in the town centre.
I believe it will put people off having to travel to the hospital site, knowing it's car parking and public transport shortcomings.
The Community Health Council is all about dedicated staff who do a great job, often under difficult circumstances, and a team of volunteers who gladly give their time for the benefit of the local population.
The people of Bolton have a voice in health matters, keep that voice, support the CHC your local Health Watchdog.
