SAM Allardyce has told Regi Blinker there is no place for him at the Reebok.

The Wanderers' boss made a final check on the former Holland international last night and decided to cut short his trial.

Portuguese pair Marco Almeida and Paulo Ferreira, who played alongside Blinker in the reserves' 5-1 thrashing by Huddersfield, have also been told they are not wanted.

"Based on what I've seen, I don't think Regi would do anything for us," Allardyce said of the 31-year-old former Feyenoord and Sheffield Wednesday star, who was released by Celtic this summer. "He has not really shown what we thought he would still be capable of."

The Wanderers' boss is resigned to having to muddle through on the injury front after effectively ruling Paul Warhurst out of a quick return.

The influential utility man, a late withdrawal from Saturday's league opener against Burnley, was expected to return at West Brom this weekend.

But the manager says that would be too big a risk to take: "We can't run the risk of bringing him back too soon and aggravating the problem." he said.

Though delighted to see his squad come through the Burnley game unscathed, apart from Mark Fish needing more stitches in an eye wound, the manager saw the knock-on effect of the early-season manpower shortage when his reserves were trounced in their first game.

"It just proved to me that we simply cannot afford any more injuries," he admitted.

"We had a bunch of kids in there who are all very keen and worked hard but they were over-run by a Huddersfield side full of experience. It has made me very, very tentative."

Melchior Schoenmakers, the central defender Allardyce wanted from Dutch club Den Bosch, cut short a trial with Manchester City yesterday with a groin injury.
