WE enjoyed reading Catherine Booth's letter in your July 18 issue, about the hedgehog she discovered inside a bin bag.

It is surprising how often hedgehogs are found inside bags of what we would call rubbish, until you think that they provide warmth and protection from the damp.

If you spot a bin bag or a supermarket bag under your hedge, check to see if it is occupied before you heft it into a dustbin.

Many of your readers will know of the existence of the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

Others may be interested in its aims are to encourage and give advice to the public about the care of hedgehogs, particularly when injured, sick, orphaned, treated cruelly or in danger.

To encourage the younger generation to value and respect wildlife and foster their interest in hedgehogs and to fund serious research into the behaviour of hedgehogs and to ascertain the best methods of assisting their survival.

Anyone wanting to know more about the Society can send an SAE to the address below.
