THE grandparents of a 14-year-old boy, who died while taking a shower, have spoken for the first time of their grief.
Laurine and Bill Ridley said they spent a night praying for Matthew Foster.
He had collapsed at his aunts' house in Tenby where he was staying while his parents moved house. A brain scan revealed he had suffered a haemorrhage.
Matthew's grandfather, Gordon, died of exactly the same condition 14 years earlier - to the exact day, according to the grandparents.
Mr and Mrs Ridley, who live on Yates Street, Tonge Moor, were shocked to learn of Matthew's death after spending a night praying he would pull through.
Mrs Ridley said: "When I was told he had a haemorrhage I froze.
"He was a lovely child and very caring. He was like a little father to his brother and sister."
Matthew leaves behind Paul, three, and Lily, five, as well as his father, Paul, and mother, Janet.
The youngster was a Michael Jackson fan and to mark his death his parents arranged flowers around a picture of the pop star.
Matthew was born in Astley Bridge and moved to Tenby with his family when he was three.
A funeral service was held at St Mary's Church, Tenby, followed by interment at Tenby New Cemetery.
