WORKMATES of a store manager who collapsed and died in front of them gathered yesterday to pay tribute to her a year after her death.
As reported in the BEN, Kath Brooks was a catering manager at the Asda Store in Astley Bridge when she had a heart attack on duty.
Colleagues who tried to revive her were devastated and since then have launched a fund-raising appeal in her memory.
They met with officials from the Bolton branch of the British Heart Foundation to hand over a cheque for more than £400.
They also joined in a minute's silence to remember their former workmate and unveiled a bench which will be placed in the store with her name on.
Secretary of the Bolton branch of the British Heart Foundation, Mrs Mary Southern, said: "We are extremely grateful to Asda for raising this money in memory of Kath. It will now be handed over to the national fund-raisers and put to very worthwhile use."
Staff at the store in Moss Bank Way have also raised £400 for the Royal Bolton Hospital in Kath's name after various fund-raising events in the store.
Linda Derbyshire from Asda said: "It is a sad occasion, but we are glad we have done it. We wanted to do something to honour Kath who worked here for many years and was much loved friend of many."
