know that some readers like photographs of old vehicles, and this one has been sent to me by Neville Brydon of Cleveleys, an apprentice fitter in the late 1940s/50s at Lawton's Transport of Kearsley. This was a Foden DG Type lorry, one of a fleet which went all over the country, and, says Mr Brydon, 'some had no starters fitted, and were started by a few men with a rope on the starting handle. At the time these lorries had to run very long periods non-stop, and had no heaters, no indicators, no stop lights, one tail lamp and only one wing mirror. Power steering was light years away.'
