A BOLTON pensioner has claimed another success in his battle to stop bus drivers leaving their engines running.
Andrew Chattlin, aged 72, of Bridgeman Street, Farnworth, has been waging a three-year one-man campaign against drivers who sit with engines switched on while stationary at Farnworth bus station.
Now Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive has promised to send a hit squad of mobile supervisors to ensure drivers are not sitting in cabs pumping out fumes from exhausts.
As reported in the BEN, Mr Chattlin has already persuaded First Manchester, the largest bus firm in Greater Manchester, to tell drivers to switch off engines.
A spokesman for GMPTE said: "GMPTE is aware that this situation is causing concern and will ensure that the buses are monitored closely by mobile supervisors who will visit the station on a daily basis to make checks."
Mr Chattlin said he was pleased with the response.
