Chorley CC 114-9

Darwen CC 114-9

CHORLEY made it to the final of the Slater Cup in the most dramatic fashion following a low scoring game at Darwen.

With both sides posting identical scores, Chorley were the victors by virtue of having scored more runs off the first 25 overs of the respective innings.

Chorley's innings got off to a bad start with Heaton bowled in the first over, but Bannister made the major contribution with 34 before being run out.

Patel, with 21, and Horridge with an undefeated 22, were the only other batsmen to reach double figures, although Mr Extras weighed in with a handy 20.

A total of 114 from their allotted 37 overs looked vulnerable, but this was by no means an easy wicket for batting on.

Patel quickly removed Hadfield courtesy of a tremendous catch by Fazackerley and Senior pulled off another stunning effort to remove professional Semple.

Batting hero Bannister trapped the dangerous Gareth Cordingley lbw and tight bowling, excellent fielding and astute captaincy by Horridge kept Chorley in the hunt.

Ultimately, Darwen started the final over on 110-9 but knowing they would need to score five to win and Heaton held his nerve amidst tremendous tension to deny the home side.
